Apply for a Tax Identification Number (NIF) – first Issue or duplicate Copy

The Tax Identification Number (NIF) declaration is the document that confirms your tax number in Cabo Verde. It may be required to open a bank account, sign contracts, access public services or complete other procedures that require tax identification.

Through GOV.CV, you can obtain your NIF declaration online. If you do not yet have a NIF, you can apply for one for the first time. If you already have a NIF, you can request a duplicate copy of the declaration whenever you need to prove your tax number.

Cost and processing time

The first issuance of a NIF is free of charge. If you require a duplicate copy, the cost varies depending on where the request is made. The fees applicable in Cabo Verde differ from those charged for requests submitted abroad. The processing time is up to 2 working days.

How to obtain a Tax Identification Number (NIF) certificate online

You can submit your request through the portal or the GOV.CV app. Click "Apply online" to begin and follow these steps:

Confirm your identification details

Check your personal details and update the information if necessary

Verify your place of birth

Confirm the place-of-birth information associated with your record

Provide your identification document details

Validate the information shown on your identification document

Complete the request

Review and, if necessary, amend the information before completing the request

Make the payment

If you are requesting a duplicate NIF declaration, make the payment using the available payment methods.

After the request has been validated and payment confirmed, the NIF declaration will be available for viewing and download.

Track your request

You can track the status of your request in the "My Requests" area, available on the portal and in the GOV.CV app.
