Definitive Return

Permanent return is the process that allows the Cape Verdean citizen to return to the country to reside permanently, benefiting from customs exemptions. 
You can import personal belongings and a vehicle, in accordance with the law, with the right to renewal every 7 years. 
The process, previously carried out with several entities, can now be done online.  

Who can apply 

The permanent return request can be made by: 

• Cape Verdean citizens who have resided abroad for a minimum period of 4 years  

What you need for the permanent return

To apply, you need:

• Valid identification document
• Vehicle documentation (if applicable); 
• Detailed list and value of the goods to be imported
• Proof of residence abroad for a period exceeding 4 years

Cost of the permanent return 

The cost of the permanent return varies depending on where the request is made. The amounts for requests made in Cabo Verde differ from those applicable to requests made abroad. This service includes a fixed and a variable component in the price.

The variable cost depends on the import of goods and vehicles: it varies depending on the quantity, the value, and whether they are new or used.
