A power of attorney is a document that allows a person (the grantor) to authorize another person (the attorney-in-fact) to act on their behalf. It can be used to handle documents, conclude business, or represent the interests of the person granting the authorization when they cannot be present.

The following can request a power of attorney online in their own name:
- Cape Verdean citizens residing in Cabo Verde or in the diaspora
What you need to apply for a power of attorney
To request a power of attorney, you need:
- Personal details and identification document of the person granting the power of attorney (the grantor)
- Personal details and identification document of the person who will represent them (the attorney-in-fact)
Through the GOV.CV app, you can also schedule a video conference with a staff member to confirm your identity.
Cost and timeframe of the power of attorney
The cost of the power of attorney varies depending on where the request is made. The amounts for requests made in Cabo Verde differ from those applicable to requests made abroad.

How to obtain a power of attorney online
You can request the power of attorney on the portal or in the GOV.CV app. Click "Apply online" to start and follow these steps:
Fill in the identification details
Enter first name, last name and other required details
Indicate the place of birth
Select the country and place of birth
Indicate the type of power of attorney
Select the type of power of attorney (marriage, purchase and sale, etc.) and enter the requested information
Indicate the grantor's details
Provide the full name, date of birth and other required details
Indicate the attorney-in-fact's details
Provide the full name, date of birth and other required details
Finalize the request
Check and, if necessary, change the details before finalizing the request
Make the payment
Pay simply and securely using digital means
- After making the payment, you must schedule a video conference so that staff can verify your identity.
- In your area on GOV.CV, click "Schedule video conference" to choose the day and time that suit you best. This step is mandatory to complete the request.
Track your request
Track the status of your power of attorney request in the "My requests" area, available on the portal or in the GOV.CV app.
