The authentication certificate is the procedure that confirms the authenticity of foreign documents so that they can be legally used in Cabo Verde.
For example, a birth certificate issued abroad can be authenticated for use in processes such as marriage, nationality or other registration acts in Cabo Verde.
Who can apply and what is needed
The request can be made by:
- Cape Verdean citizens residing in the country or abroad
- Legal representatives of minors and incapacitated persons
To apply you need:
- Valid identification document
- Document to be authenticated

The cost of the authentication certificate varies depending on where the request is made. The amounts for requests made in Cabo Verde differ from those applicable to requests made abroad.

How to apply for the authentication certificate online
You can request the authentication certificate on the portal or in the GOV.CV app. Click "Apply online" to start and follow these steps:
Indicate who the request is for
For yourself – For another person
Fill in the identification details
Enter first name, last name and other required details
Indicate the place of birth
Select the country and place of birth
Attach the documents
You can attach one document at a time
Fill in the grantor's details
Complete this field if the request is being made on behalf of another person
Finalize the request
Check and, if necessary, change the details before finalizing the request
Make the payment
Pay simply and securely using digital means
Track your request
Track the status of your authentication certificate request in the "My requests" area, available on the portal or in the GOV.CV app.
