The criminal record certificate is the official document that proves whether a person has a criminal record or not. It can be requested for different situations, such as working, studying, traveling or applying for job opportunities in Cabo Verde or abroad.
Who can apply
The criminal record can be requested by the citizen themselves, by citizens in the diaspora, foreign residents in the country or by legally authorized representatives, such as:
- Ascendants (parents or grandparents);
- Spouse, legal guardian or curator;
- Any person with written authorization from the holder;
- Lawyers or solicitors with proof of legal representation
What you need to apply for the criminal record certificate
National citizens can use:
- Identity card;
- National Identification Card;
- Passport.
Foreign citizens need:
- Passport
- Residence card

The cost of the criminal record certificate varies depending on where the request is made. The amounts for requests made in Cabo Verde differ from those applicable to requests made abroad. The document is valid for 3 months.

How to obtain the criminal record certificate online
You can request the criminal record certificate on the portal or in the GOV.CV app. Click "Apply online" to start and follow these steps:

Enter first name, last name and other required details
Indicate the place of birth
Select the country and place of birth
Provide the identification document
Enter the details of a valid document
Indicate the purpose of the request
Select the reason for the request
Finalize the request
Check and, if necessary, change the details before finalizing the request

Pay simply and securely using digital means

Track the status of your criminal record certificate request in the "My requests" area, available on the portal or in the GOV.CV app.
