The Cape Verdean nationality certificate is the official document that proves the applicant's citizenship. It contains personal information and can be used as proof of nationality for various purposes, such as obtaining a passport, working or voting.
Who can apply and what is needed
Any citizen can submit the nationality certificate request in their own name or on behalf of another person:
- Cape Verdeans residing in the country
- Cape Verdeans residing abroad
- Legal representatives in the case of minors, persons under guardianship or legally incapacitated persons
To apply for the nationality certificate, it is enough to provide the applicant's personal details and the place of birth.
Cost of the nationality certificate
The cost of the nationality certificate varies depending on where the request is made. The amounts for requests made in Cabo Verde differ from those applicable to requests made abroad.

How to apply for the nationality certificate online
You can request the nationality certificate on the portal or in the GOV.CV app. Click "Apply online" to start and follow these steps:
Choose the type of request

Fill in the identification details
Provide your full name, date of birth and the other required details
Indicate your place of birth
Select the country and place of birth
Finalize the request
Check and, if necessary, change the details before finalizing the request
Make the payment
Pay simply and securely using digital means
Track your request
Track the status of your nationality certificate request in the "My requests" area, available on the portal or in the GOV.CV app.
