The birth transcription is an act that allows the registration, in Cabo Verde, of a birth that occurred abroad. It is necessary to facilitate the process of acquiring Cape Verdean nationality and the issuance of other documents.
Who can apply for the transcription and what is needed
The birth transcription can be requested by Cape Verdean citizens who have the following documents:
- Original birth certificate of the applicant
- Birth certificate of one of the parents or one of the grandparents of the applicant
- Declaration form for the granting of Cape Verdean nationality to the applicant
- Identification document of the applicant, if over 18 years of age
Before requesting the transcription, check whether the birth certificates are within their validity period (6 months after issuance). It is also necessary to sign the Declaration Form. With this document, the applicant requests Cape Verdean nationality as the child, grandchild or great-grandchild of a Cape Verdean national.
Cost and timeframe of the birth transcription
The cost of the birth transcription varies depending on where the request is made. The amounts for requests made in Cabo Verde differ from those applicable to requests made abroad.

You can request the birth transcription on the portal or in the GOV.CV app. Click "Apply online" to start and follow these steps:
