The death transcription allows the registration, in Cabo Verde, of the death of a national that occurred abroad. This registration is necessary to update civil records and handle administrative and legal procedures in the country.
For example, it allows updating the marital status of the spouse or handling inheritance and pension matters.
Who can apply for the transcription and what is needed
The death transcription can be requested by the family members of the deceased.
The following documents will be required:
- Valid death certificate issued abroad
- Declaration form duly signed
- Identification document of the deceased
Before requesting the transcription, always check whether the original death certificate is valid (6 months after issuance). Also have the signed declaration form ready. With this document, the degree of kinship with the deceased is also declared.

How to apply for a death transcription online
You can request the death transcription on the portal or in the GOV.CV app. Click "Apply online" to start and follow these steps:
Fill in the identification details
Enter first name, last name and other required details
Indicate the place of birth
Select the country and place of birth
Fill in the details of the death
Provide the date and time of death
Fill in the spouse's details
You can skip this field if not applicable
Attach the required documents
Declaration form, foreign death certificate and identification document of the deceased
Attach the documents and finalize
Check and, if necessary, change the details before finalizing the request.

Track the status of your death transcription request in the "My requests" area, available on the portal or in the GOV.CV app.
